Understanding Sofa Dimensions
Width (W): the distance across the front of the sofa space, from arm to arm.
Height (H): the distance from the floor to the highest point of the sofa
Depth (D): the distance from front to back
Recliners, sofa beds and corner sofas often extend beyond their base dimensions. Be sure to factor in any additional movement or modular sections when planning your space.

Measure Your Space
Start by measuring the space where your sofa will sit. Record the width, depth and height, and take into account surrounding furniture, walls and walkways.
Planning your layout in advance helps ensure your sofa fits comfortably without overcrowding the room.
As a guide, allow enough space to move freely around the sofa and maintain a balanced layout.
FAQs
Will the sofa fit through my door?
Before your sofa reaches your chosen room, it must first pass through your entryway.
Start by measuring the height and width of all access points, including doors, hallways and the narrowest parts of the route. Compare these measurements with your sofa’s dimensions, paying close attention to its height, as most sofas are delivered on their side.
Check for any obstacles along the way, such as radiators, shelving, skirting boards or light fittings. The narrowest point of the route must be wider than the sofa’s height to allow safe passage.
Also consider that sofas are delivered in protective packaging, which adds a few extra centimetres to the overall size. If space is tight, additional clearance will be needed for tilting or rotating during delivery.
If your main entrance is too narrow, measure alternative access points such as patio doors or side entrances.

Will the sofa fit in my chosen room?
Measure internal doorways and account for any obstructions such as radiators, door swings or fitted furniture.
Then measure the space where your sofa will sit. To visualise this, mark out the dimensions on the floor using tape. This helps you confirm spacing, layout and whether you can move comfortably around the sofa once in place.
Will the sofa fit inside the lift?
If access requires a lift, check both the door opening and the internal cabin size.
The lift door must be wide enough for the sofa to enter, and the internal space must allow for positioning and rotation where needed.
Will the sofa go up the stairs?
If your sofa needs to be taken upstairs, measure the width of the staircase at its narrowest point, including any restrictions caused by handrails or low ceilings.
If the sofa needs to pass over the bannister, ensure there is enough clearance between the bannister and ceiling to accommodate the sofa’s depth.
Measure Access Points
Front Door
Your sofa must pass through your main entrance first. Measure the door width and height, along with the space needed to open it fully. If required, removing the door from its hinges can provide additional clearance.
Hallways and Corridors
Measure the narrowest point along the route your sofa will travel. Compare this with the sofa’s largest dimension. If it cannot pass the tightest point, it will not fit through.
Staircases
Measure the width of the staircase at its narrowest point, along with ceiling height and any turns or landings. Ensure there is enough space to manoeuvre the sofa, especially if it needs to be carried upright.
Lifts (Flats & Apartments)
Measure the lift door opening and the internal cabin dimensions, including width, depth and height. Make sure there is enough space to position and rotate the sofa if required.
Delivery Day Checklist

Prepare Your Access Route
Clear hallways and walkways of any obstacles before delivery. This includes furniture, décor and anything that may restrict movement. A clear path allows the delivery team to move efficiently and safely.

Protect Your Home
Roll up rugs and mats to keep pathways clear and safe. If access is tight, protect banisters, walls and corners, and consider covering new carpets with sheets or temporary flooring. It is a simple step that helps prevent accidental marks during delivery, as we are unable to take liability for damage within the home.

Maximise Clearance
If space is limited, consider removing doors from their hinges in advance to create additional room. Small adjustments like this can make a significant difference on the day.

Plan for Delivery Day
Ensure children and pets are safely out of the way during delivery. Some sofas, particularly modular, corner and sofa beds, may arrive in separate sections to make access easier. Always check product details for assembly information.

Final Fit Confirmation
Before delivery, take a moment to double check everything lines up. Your sofa should comfortably pass through your doorway or hallway, allow enough space to turn where needed, and fit within the layout you have mapped out.
There should also be enough clearance around it for easy movement once in place. If any one of these doesn’t quite work, it could affect delivery on the day, so it’s always worth checking again to avoid any surprises.
